July 2023 Newsletter

Great is Thy Faithfulness!

If you have the chance to see The Sound of Freedom, please do. This movie will show you how real the sex trafficking of children is and THIS is a big part of what we are rescuing these children from. Our goal at New Beginnings is to keep them from ending up in the sex trade but we are also seeing that we are now caring for those who are being rescued from that life. If you want to get involved in being the answer to the problem, sponsoring a child with us is one way. In the movie the sound of freedom is the sound of children playing, singing, and laughing, and it is one of the things that touches my heart daily at New Beginnings. That is THE sound of freedom for an orphan or vulnerable child and a child that was being trafficked. I cannot tell you how many times that sound has brought tears to my eyes, as I watch the children, when I think about what could have happened if we were not there to help them. YOU are such a big part of that!

We have recently been blessed with the government placing a District Children's Office in our local community. They are there for us as much as we are there for them. Since they have come, it seems many more children are being brought who are in immediate need of help. Since we are the ONLY orphanage and rescue center in 2 districts, they are all brought to us. We love them and take them and pray for God to touch the hearts of people to become involved. Some of these children are coming out of trafficking circumstances, some are out of dangerous homes, and some are runaways. Please join us in praying for the needed help to support these precious lives.

Our grounds/maintenance/building team are very busy trying to finish up some small jobs around New Beginnings such as a girls' latrine for the high school and a community store that we hope to open soon. Some work at our Missionary Housing area to make it better, and some work on the road to give us easier access to New Beginnings.

Even with these smaller jobs taking place we recognize the need for more dormitories as a priority. Besides the need for more sponsors, we need the space to bring more children/students into New Beginnings. Our current dormitories are very full. Our goal is to build our dormitories with safety and security in mind for our students. This will mean more modern facilities with access to running water, etc. Please consider helping us with a donation OR plan a fundraiser to help build one of the new dormitories. We need about $12,000 per dormitory, and at this time we need $36,000 to build three new dormitories before the start of 2024. Consider getting involved to make this happen. Together we can save the lives of these vulnerable children and give them HOPE for a better future.

Thanks so much for your prayers and your continued help and support. We can't do it without YOU! If you have an opportunity for us to share at your church, VBS, Women's Conference, etc, please contact us. We need your help to get the word out.

May God bless you,
Gaye Makrias

CHRISTMAS IN JULY

As New Beginnings continues to grow, we have found we no longer have space to bring bags of gifts for the children from the United States BUT we will be collecting letters/photos for your sponsored children as well as monetary donations to purchase gifts in Kenya.

Our goal is to raise $25 per sponsored child to purchase a new play uniform/tracksuit for each child, plus some of their favorite candies and perhaps a toy or water bottle. Our deadline for letters/photos has passed but we are still accepting monetary donations through July 31st. You can also email letters at any time!

PRAYER PARTNERS

Please continue your prayers for our ministry to the orphans of Kenya. If you or your church are not currently on our Prayer Warriors list, contact us so that we can be sure to add you. We have weekly prayer requests going out.

We would also love to meet with you for a time of fellowship and prayer. We would be honored to come to your location, whether it is at your home or church, to pray for the needy of Kenya. These are just very blessed times and we appreciate them so much. Let us know if you would like to schedule a gathering!

MISSION EXPEDITION

Our July/Aug Mission is FULL! The team will be departing soon. Please pray for this team for safety and for any plans of the enemy to be defeated.

We are accepting applications for the January and July 2024 teams. If you are interested, visit our Mission page to apply. If you have questions feel free to ASK. We want to do all we can to help you get on the mission field to remote Africa. We have people interested in specialized team trips that would include a special ministry focus, and possibly even a longer safari. We can make this happen. Contact us about what you feel God is calling you to do. Let's work together to create the right trip!

Most of our teams spend their days immersed in the culture and lives of the children who call New Beginnings Children's Center HOME.

Show the love of Jesus to a remote community through home visits to their modest mud houses while taking supplies to the poorest widows. Spend time with the children doing Bible School, Bible studies, and Storybook time. Enjoy their cultural songs and dances. End your trip with an awesome safari to the world-famous Masai Mara. See the animals as they live in the wild.

Change their lives AND change your life...FOREVER!

CHILD OF THE MONTH - Felix

Felix is 12 and in 7th grade. His family donated land to start New Beginnings but they live well below the poverty level. His family are farmers but the little farm they have cannot provide for an education. Felix needs a sponsor to continue going to school. You can help change his life for as little as $25 a month. What better investment is there for this amount? Become a World Changer by changing the life of one child. Pray for Felix family for provisions and for a good harvest.    Are YOU the answer to his prayers?

NEWS FROM NEW BEGINNINGS

School News
We are excited to announce that we have filled the position of technology teacher. This teacher will help in both our Jr High School and our High School.

We are seeing great improvement in our student's grades and we believe it is due in part to our search for very good teachers to hire AND also our tutoring program that targets the needs of those who are struggling in various areas. We want to see many go onto universities and colleges from New Beginnings.

Every sponsor is making this a big change for these students. Often I will hear from a student who has finished high school and cannot believe they are going to go on to higher education. They just never even dreamed this would be possible. Changing the world one child at a time. Education isn't a handout but a hand-up. YOU are making a difference!!

PROJECT DEVELOPMENT NEWS

PHASE VI: Building for their Future!

Our new building projects unveiled for 2023. You blessed us so much last year and we are excited to see where God moves us this year. With YOUR help we know we can do it.

Our next building project will be one of our small projects: a small store/canteen that we will build at our gate. Our store will serve the community and those living at New Beginnings. This is one of our steps in making New Beginnings more self-sustaining - an important step in our growth. The cost of the construction will be about $3000.  This project is ongoing.  Consider a gift today!

Another small project we will be working on is another latrine for our high school. We are required to have the boys' and girls' latrines separated from each other. This will cost us about $1000. This is ongoing and almost finished.

We are still working on the installation of electricity to New Beginnings. Prayers and donations for this would be greatly appreciated.

Then we will go right into building one of our new dormitories. The cost for 1 is about $12,000.

Any donation to the building fund will be greatly appreciated and help us to move forward in changing the lives of these children.

COLLEGE/UNIVERSITY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

Currently, we have more than 20 students in colleges/universities throughout Kenya. Our scholarship program is a great way to invest in advancing a student's education past high school. You can give to help a certain student or donate to help any who are waiting.

Students currently attending on first year scholarships are Emmanuel, Sharon, Newton, and Ian.

Students currently preparing for universities and colleges are Irene Joseph, Dave Okoth, Dickson Omondi, Kijana, Phenny, Linet Achieng, Tyson Juma, Pamela, Norah Achieng, Irene Atieno, Anjeline Auma, Papa John, and Austine.

Recently the government slashed some of the higher education funding for many students and we are still waiting to see how this will affect many of our students. Prayers are needed that if they cut something, they reconsider and choose to support vulnerable children in need.

Next Step Program

Sometimes our high school graduates contact us when they have been out in the world for a little while and find themselves in great need of help to go to the Next Step. Some who finish our program have found jobs or have families that will help them get to the next step, but sometimes our graduates really just need that extra hand-up.

Our Next Step Program was started to help these formerly-sponsored students who come to serve our center as interns so that we can begin to train them and see if they are serious about this decision. Then we help them go on to college/trade school/etc to help them move forward. Those currently in our Next Step Program are Jane and Susan.

If you would like to give to help these graduates, your one-time or monthly donation of any size will make it possible. Currently, we have several young adults working toward their goals. If you would like to help them, I know it would be greatly appreciated. Donate here and select 'College/University Scholarship Fund'  or "Next Step Program" to help a young person achieve their goals!

CHILDREN IN NEED

Please share this great need with your family and friends.

PLEASE NOTE: Because of rising food costs, etc, we have made a slight change to our sponsor amount. Currently, the cost to fully sponsor a child is $100 per month. BUT you can be part of the team of sponsors for as little as $25 a month. We will find others who can partner to help each child in need. Don't delay, start TODAY!

Meet Joy

Joy is 9 years old and in 3rd grade. When her parents separated, her mother abandoned the family. Her father is illiterate and unable to care for Joy. As Joy gets older, staying alone with her father will become more risky. Joy needs a sponsor. You can help change her life for as little as $25 a month. Joy needs 2-$25 sponsors or 1-$50 sponsor.  Visit Joy's sponsorship page and start TODAY!

Meet Jeremy

Jeremy is 4 years old and has not started preschool. His mother is a widow who struggles to care for him.  Jeremy needs help. A sponsor at any level will be a great blessing to Jeremy.   Can you help Jeremy?

A child is praying...are you the answer?
100% of all sponsor donations go to help the children.
