February 2022 Newsletter

What a great year it is to be alive!

May we never forget that each day is a gift from God and He has given it to us. May we make the most of what He has given and use it to bring glory to His name.

A look back at what was accomplished at our children's home New Beginnings in 2021. Please note that when I say WE, it means YOU and all of us. YOU have been a big part of the WE at New Beginnings.

Mission team enjoying the mission house porch

School

  • More than 300 children were educated at our preschool, elementary school, and high school.
  • Twenty students graduated from our high school with 7 scoring high enough to find placement in a university. Many others were able to go on to colleges.
  • Through our Student Scholarship program and our Next Step program, we have 9 students currently in universities and colleges.
  • Today we have more than 120 children in our sponsor program.

Building

  • We have built a new mission house that is equipped with indoor plumbing, a big change for this area of the world.
  • We have brought electricity to New Beginnings and built a power house. Currently we have electricity to our power house and are raising funds to wire all our buildings.
  • In progress: We are currently building a new staff house for our female staff to give them a safe secure place to live. This will also be completed with indoor plumbing.

Missions

  • We had a mission team of 9 come to join us at New Beginnings last July.
  • One missionary returned to help us set up our leadership team and establish our Core Values:

Honesty + Integrity + Transparency = Trust

Leadership

  • We now hire and promote based on our core values with constant evaluations taking place to help our staff grow and learn.
  • We have formed a leadership team of 6 key staff who serve to oversee that each department is running appropriately. We meet with this team on a weekly basis.
  • We have appointed several former students as key children's liaison staff who help children contact the U.S. office if they feel the need to report anything directly to us.
  • We have hired some of our former children to become part of our staff. Currently we have 3 on staff, with many more preparing for a future at New Beginnings.
  • We have about 15 former students who rotate in and out to serve as interns during their time off from colleges and universities. ALL of our interns are offered a basic computer class in the local town to ensure they have computer skills to take with them to their schools of higher learning.
  • We have more than 50 people on staff.

Community

  • We gave out many staples to the poor widows of our community, including a bed for a poor widow who was found sleeping on the dirt floor.
  • We have identified more than 25 children in great need of help for even the basics of life.
  • We have taken in several rescued cases from the community and children's courts.
  • We were inspected by the National Children's Office and they are very grateful for what we are doing to help these children. They also want to make us a shining example for the whole county to follow.

We have continued to be the city on the hill to many. With YOUR help this has all been possible. Your support is truly changing lives.

This year we have some wonderful goals we hope you will help us get behind.

Building & Development

  • Finish the female staff house, hopefully in January.
  • Build our new preschool for our youngest children.
  • Connect all our buildings to electricity.
  • Purchase a safari vehicle to transport our children, staff, and mission teams. We will also begin our safari company as a means of bringing jobs and income to New Beginnings and the area. We will train former students to operate and manage this business.
  • Build a computer lab and equip it. This will enable us to begin to offer computer training and computer JOBS at New Beginnings.

Supporting People

  • Add a minimum of 25 children to those who are sponsored. We can't do this without YOUR help. Please help us spread the word about what God is doing.
  • Add more counseling/social workers to our staff to help with the many children who suffer from trauma from abuse. We need to bring them to the light of Jesus.
  • This April, we will graduate another class from our high school and expect to see at least 7 more score high enough to attend a university.

Missions

  • Bring at least 2 more mission teams to New Beginnings.

You will notice that we are making more and more plans to bring income to support New Beginnings AND to provide job opportunities for our former children and others in this forgotten community. We have MANY more ideas to bring opportunity to this part of the world.

Our goal is to begin to make New Beginnings self-sustaining and even grow into expanding what we are doing to other parts of Kenya. However, we can't do it without your help.

God is really changing lives. As these children grow and see real hope for a future, they begin to understand a little of how much God loves those whom once felt they were forgotten. A changed heart will change lives and we can't change a heart without new hope. When you give to help the least of these innocent children, you are giving a gift of HOPE.

One of our former sponsored students is about to graduate with a degree in Industrial Chemistry. He is finishing as one of the top students in his university. Another student will soon be finishing his university with a degree in high school education. Plus others are studying in colleges to return to New Beginnings and help serve. These are students who once thought going to high school was impossible in their lives. This is the gift of HOPE! And maybe God will use that gift to change the world. BUT for each one God has used that gift to change their world.

May God bless you all abundantly this year and may you continue to help this light shine in an otherwise dark part of the world.

In His Service,
Gaye

Donations Needed

Soccer Uniforms
We could still use shorts for our soccer uniforms in black or purple. Any size especially adult sizes small and medium are needed.

Undergarments
We are still collecting undergarments. Our greatest need is for bras and camisoles (with the inner bra). We also need PJ's. These can be new or gently used. Our girls really appreciate these and put them to good use.

Prayer Partners

Please continue your prayers for our ministry to the orphans of Kenya. If you or your church are not currently on our Prayer Warriors list, contact us so that we can be sure to add you. We have weekly prayer requests going out.

We have also started something new - gathering for a time of fellowship and prayer. We would be honored to come to your location, whether it is at your home or church, for a gathering. They are just very blessed times and we appreciate them so much. Let us know if you would like to schedule a gathering!

News from New Beginnings

Primary & Secondary School News

We are excited to report that we have well over 300 students total in both our schools. We have changed our strategy and are now focused on bringing in the best teachers we can find to help our children succeed academically. We are excited for what God is doing in the lives of these children. Join us as a school supporter to make this possible for our children.

Both schools are in their final semester for the school year. Due to Covid, the school year has been changed and the hope is to get 2 graduating classes in 2022 to keep things moving along for the children. One group will be taking their final national exams in March/April. A new school year will begin in April.

Our school is growing by leaps and bounds!

College/University Scholarship Program - The Next Step Program

Currently we have 10 students in colleges/universities throughout Kenya plus several who are serving as interns at New Beginnings as they prepare to go to colleges in 2022. Our scholarship program is a great way to invest in advancing a student's education past high school. You can give to help a certain student or donate to help any who are waiting. Currently those attending on first year scholarships are Afline, Martha, Bruce, Octave, Jackline, and Kevin.

Sometimes our high school graduates contact us when they find themselves in great need of help to go the Next Step. Some who finish our program have found jobs or have family that will help them get to the next step, but sometimes our graduates really need just that extra hand up.

We have decided to start a new scholarship program to help these students. This is our Next Step Program. These formerly sponsored students come to serve our center as interns so that we can begin to train them and see if they are serious about this decision. Then we help them go on to colleges to help them move forward. Those currently in our Next Step Program are Sharon, Jane, Susan, and Felix.

If you would like to give to help these graduates, your one-time or monthly donation of any size will make it possible. Currently we have several young adults working toward their goals. If you would like to help them, I know it would be greatly appreciated. Donate here and select 'College/University Scholarship Fund' to help a young person achieve their goals!

Jane

UPDATE: Jane is now attending a school to get her diploma in Social Work. She is just finishing her 1st year. She is so grateful for the help she has received to start her first year. She is still in need of support to see her the rest of the way through. Thank you for giving a hand up.

Sharon

UPDATE:  Sharon is now in a college studying to become an accountant. This is a dream she almost gave up but is now seeing it come true. Thanks for giving Sharon a hand up.

Susan

Susan finished our program with a certificate in food and beverage. She spent some time working in Nairobi. The big city did not really appeal to her and she later returned to our area and has struggled to find permanent employment. She is currently serving in our kitchen. She hopes to further her education in food and beverage.

Felix

Felix finished high school and was able to finish a semester of college and then was unable to go further. He worked as a bartender and then in fishing but realized he was going nowhere. He is currently serving as an intern at New Beginnings and hopes to further his education possibly in business management.

Children in Need

Currently we have many children living at New Beginnings who have come in as emergency cases through our children's office. These children can use either a partial or a full sponsor to remain in our program. We need your help to find them sponsors. Visit our Sponsorship page to view more children in need.

Please share this great need with your family and friends.

Meet Cynthia!

Cynthia is 11 and in 3rd grade. Since her mother's death, her father remarried and the step mother has refused to care for the children. An elderly grandmother has been caring for them but is unable to supply the basics. Cynthia and her 2 sisters need help. Is God calling YOU?

Meet Silvenus!

Silvenus was a rescue child who was a victim of severe neglect and abuse. He had little hope before coming to New Beginnings. He is now able to recover and is learning. He is in need of a part sponsor. Consider a gift of HOPE!

A child is praying...are you the answer?
100% of all sponsor donations go to help the children.
