...and neither should we when we are following. Things are moving forward here at New Beginnings Children's Center. Our high school was ranked as the most improved in the district as we ranked #8. We had 14 students qualify for university. Our elementary school didn't do as well as the high school but we are making constant improvements. Our teaching staff for both schools is improving and you can see it in the students' scores and in the number of students. More students are requesting boarding at our school. We are attracting students from even as far away as Kisumu (a 4-hour drive). Boarding school is very popular in Kenya and we are working to make our school one of the top schools in every way. So amazing to see God at work transforming this community and the lives of these students.
We just had a fantastic team finish up 2 weeks of serving the Lord at New Beginnings and the surrounding community. Many stated that they aren't sure which was changed more, the children's lives OR their own. That is just how God works. When you are a blessing, you also are blessed.
Our Child Welfare department is very busy making home visits to investigate the needs of children who are brought to us seeking help. With the start of school and the success of our high school, we have many new high school students in need of help. Plus, more and more seeking help in our elementary section. The local children's office has been sending more children our way who are in need of rescue from their circumstances. It is a blessing to us to have a District Children's Office nearby that we can work hand in hand with to serve "the least of these." Consider becoming involved, and change a child's life. Joseph is 8 years old and in 2nd grade. His mother has struggled to care for him and his 4 siblings since his father's death. Please pray for his family and pray that God would open the door for someone to care enough to sponsor him. For just $25 a month, his life could be changed.
School News
Our high school was the most improved in our district with 14 out of 20 students qualifying for university. Our primary school has now opened its new Jr Secondary department according to the government's requirements. Our high school is also preparing to offer a computer class. God is moving. Lives are being changed. ALL glory to God!
We are awaiting the needed donations to move forward on the electricity and our new girls' dormitory. Our biggest need is a vehicle. For our center to become more self-sustaining we need to start some businesses and that will require a vehicle. We have plans to open a small community shop early this year but it could have the potential to grow into a major supplier. The vehicle will also bless us in transporting our teams and children to various places.

Our electrical installation has been stalled awaiting the needed funding to continue. Please consider a gift to our Building Fund to help us place electricity into each of our buildings. We have power lines run to our compound but await the needed wiring to install it into our buildings.

Currently, we have 14 students in colleges/universities throughout Kenya. Our scholarship program is a great way to invest in advancing a student's education past high school. You can give to help a certain student or donate to help any who are waiting.
Students currently attending on first year scholarships are Emmanuel, Sharon, Newton, and Ian.
Students currently preparing for universities and colleges are Irene Joseph, Dave Okoth, Dickson Omondi, Kijana, Phenny, Linet Achieng, Tyson Juma, Pamela, Norah Achieng, Irene Atieno, Anjeline Auma, Papa John, and Austine.
Recently the government slashed some of the higher education funding for many students and we are still waiting to see how this will affect many of our students. Prayers are needed that if they cut something, they reconsider vulnerable children in need.
Sometimes our high school graduates contact us when they have been out in the world for a little while and find themselves in great need of help to go to the Next Step. Some who finish our program have found jobs or have families that will help them get to the next step, but sometimes our graduates really just need that extra hand-up.
Our Next Step Program was started to help these formerly-sponsored students who come to serve our center as interns so that we can begin to train them and see if they are serious about this decision. Then we help them go on to college/trade school/etc to help them move forward. Those currently in our Next Step Program are Jane and Susan. Felix and Sharon have recently been hired as part of our staff after completing training in different fields.
