So good to be back in the USA for a short time. I hope that many of us can connect while I am here. We would be honored to come to share with your church, small group, or organization. God is truly on the move in Kenya and we are so blessed to be part of what He is doing on this remote hillside in far off Kenya.
COVID is still somewhat of an issue in Kenya. Although most of the country seems to have gotten back to normal, schools have finally just opened for 12th, 8th, and 4th grade. While we do have many students in those 4 classes, we still have many who are praying to get back to class.
We continue to monitor those who are living with family to assure they are doing well. We are working to help recognize those who would do better living at home instead of at New Beginnings, since it is always better for a child to live in a family environment than to live in an institution. We are working to screen any who are at risk being with family and plan to start more training in 2021, with the help of our District Children's Office, to help families learn more about caring for the children in a safe way.
Although we still have many children who live at New Beginnings all the time, we hope to see more children transition into living with family whenever possible while we monitor and still care for these children. This also falls in line with what the government of Kenya is requesting of Children's Homes. These children still are in great need of our support but in a different way and we appreciate your prayers as we move into this new phase.
In many ways the COVID experience has forced us to work into this new form of help that should be better for some of the children.
During my time in Kenya, we uncovered some extreme issues with our director and we were forced to replace him within one week's time. This is one of the main reasons we try to be on the ground to know what is going on. Upon replacing him, we were able to then hire 4 other staff members whom we have been trying to hire for the last 2 years. Seems we found the real problem in our hiring. God is good!
Pray for our staff as they work as a team to serve the children of Kenya. I have gotten some very positive responses from several staff of New Beginnings that things are now going much better. Praise God!
We thank God for all that He is doing for these children. We have more and more children who have finished our program and so many contact me to tell me how much what we/YOU are doing has changed their lives. If you haven't heard a BIG THANK YOU in the past from us and them, we take this month of THANKSGIVING to tell you all that what you are doing is changing lives. We have weekly prayer requests going out. We have also started something new - holding gatherings as a time of fellowship and prayer. We have had 2 more children come to us through the courts. Both were victims of physical and sexual abuse. They are both special needs children. Please pray for them as we try to find schooling for them and as they begin to heal from their past lives.

It is that time of year again when we are collecting for school shoes and uniforms for the children. We hope to be able to expand this year to also purchase school textbooks for our children so that instead of them copying the information from the board each day, they can each have a book to read themselves. Currently our teachers each have a text book and we have a few that the children try to share. This could be a game changer and would bless our school and the children so much. We are in great need of soccer uniforms in adult sizes. Mostly small and medium and maybe a few large. We can also use soccer shoes in adult sizes. If you can help us, let us know. We THANK GOD that we have received a bundle of soccer uniforms for the children of New Beginnings. We still need more soccer shoes.
We are still collecting undergarments. Our greatest need is for bras and camisoles (with the inner bra). We also need PJ's. These can be new or gently used. Our girls really appreciate these and put them to good use.

Our schools have started with 12th grade, 8th grade, and 4th grade. These are the classes that are scheduled to take national exams at the end of the school year. A decision was made to bring these students back and to schedule their final exams for March/April.
Currently, the plan is for the rest of the students will begin in January and the school year will conclude in March.
The students are working hard to make up for the time they missed in this difficult year. We have many students in these 3 classes but we are still able to social distance and follow all the regulations for COVID prevention. The students are so happy to be back in class.
Please pray for them as they move forward.
Our biggest building need is classrooms for our preschool. We are sure our small space for our preschool will stop us from holding class for our youngest children once the schools reopen. YOUR HELP IS AN URGENT NEED!! Please help us meet our goals so that we can continue to serve our children and the children of this community that attend our preschool.

Consider a one-time or monthly gift to our College/University Scholarship program. This helps some of our brightest students to continue in a university or college to advance their studies.
A student who is accepted into a university from New Beginnings needs to fully cover their first year of school. For 90% of those who score high enough for university, the government will help after the first year. Can you help us make it possible for even one child to attend university for that first year? Depending on the university and the degree, the first full year costs $350-$400.
Currently New Beginnings has 3 interns who are serving with us. Our interns are typically former students whom have shown excellent character and we have offered them an opportunity to return and serve at the center. One has scored high enough to go on to university. One is looking into a college, and one we are considering offering a job at New Beginnings. Please keep Robert, Nicholas, and Daniel in prayer.
