While serving on short-term mission trips, Gaye Makrias, founder and director of SCM, recognized a need to establish an organization to labor alongside those around the world who struggle to care for orphans and vulnerable children. SCM does this by working with these indigenous servants who are already working directly with children in their own countries. SCM makes a preliminary visit to each area that we serve to establish that there is truly a need. We continue to make regular visits to ensure that projects supported by SCM continue to use what is provided in the appropriate manner for which it is given.
This ministry is an interdenominational ministry, and so our board comes from different denominations. We believe that the Bible is the true Word of God. We believe that Jesus is the only way to eternal life. We believe in the Trinity, and the redemptive saving power of the Holy Spirit.
Sometimes people will ask "Why we are called Shalom Christian Missions?" Shalom is a Hebrew greeting that means "peace". Peace between man and God and peace between nations. Through Shalom Christian Missions we strive, by the grace of God, to achieve both.
Shalom Christian Missions is currently serving with the children in Nyasoti and Magunga, Kenya. It is in a very rural part of the western province of Nyanza, near Lake Victoria. SCM operates New Beginnings Children's Center to provide a home for orphaned and needy children in this area.
Shalom Christian Missions no longer is working with Simon Ochola and his children's center (SCC) because of accountability and many other issues that were revealed to us. We do continue to work with the community of Nyasoti, at their request. A new center has been established for the benefit of the children and the community.
These two children are at the top of our list of children needing sponsors. Click one of their pictures to read more about them.
