SCM has a diverse board that has come together from many different backgrounds to bring the love of Jesus to children who have lost hope and feel unloved.
Gaye has had many years experience in business management. She and her husband have operated a successful business for more than 27 years. Gaye left the business world to care for her six children. Later, she was called to ministry serving for more than 10 years in children and youth ministry. While serving in youth ministry, Gaye answered the call to missions which led her to serve and lead many mission trips in five nations on four continents.
In 2004, God took Gaye to Kenya where He captured her heart for the people, especially the children of this nation. Gaye helped to found Shalom Christian Missions out of a desire to help children who have no one to give them hope and to preserve and protect these precious lives. Gaye's passion for children does not stop with missions as she works full-time caring for children in the U.S. within the public school system.
John has spent several months at New Beginnings Children's Center establishing the organization and hiring staff. His 27 years as a successful business owner have been of great value to him in meeting this challenge. John also holds 2 degree, one in Engineering and one in Urban and Metropolitan Studies that have helped him as he serves in Kenya. John and Gaye have six children. His experience as a father has prepared him to meet the many different opportunities that he has been faced with while ministering to the children and the community of Nyasoti.
John has served in ministry at different levels including leading various small groups and on the leadership team for youth ministry. John believes there is so much more that can be accomplished at New Beginnings and looks forward to spending much more time in Kenya.
Amy begin her journey on the mission field in 2015, and has since traveled all over the world to pursue the great commission. She has also spent the last 10 years serving in youth ministry and was just recently ordained as a pastor. In 2021, she was able to travel to Kenya to see the work that God has been doing through SCM. Since then she has been back multiple times to lead teams onto the mission field and currently sponsors 3 children at New Beginnings. Amy has been married to her husband, Tony for 13 years and is a mother to 4 beautiful children. .jpg)

Years ago, Tracey heard about the great needs in this remote area in Kenya and how John & Gaye have been obedient in following God to watch what He will do there and knew she wanted to support this mission. Tracey began by sponsoring a child and praying for SCM and NBCC, the children and staff. She then assisted with helping to get mailings out to sponsors. As a board member, Tracey now also participates in promotional events, fundraisers, and makes community connections through individuals, groups, organizations, and schools to help in any way possible.
Laurel is experienced in non-profit operations and enjoys working on things behind the scenes. After many years of teaching children's classes at church, she was introduced to SCM when John & Gaye came to share about their work in Kenya. She became a sponsor and learned more about the great things God was doing with SCM. A few years ago, John & Gaye shared that they were headed to a conference and needed help figuring out the vendor booth and marketing materials. Laurel offered to assist as she had just worked on a vendor booth set up for her 9-5. She became more involved and is looking forward to making a trip to Kenya in the near future!
